The
history of Mendoza Fly Shop, is the history of a men, better said,
a fly fisherman from
Mendoza
and his family.
1
993
It
was in September of 93’, when just a few were lucky to know about fly
fishing in our county, when it was proposed the adventure to import equipment
to learn more about the art of fly fishing, and to share this with the
community. That’s the way a family business began, the first
fly shop on the county, that under the guide of Benito Perez it was directed
by Margarita, his wife, and with the incomparable help of his son Pablo
Rodrigo, almost a teenager, could grown the business of fly fishing that
today is leader in Cuyo.
In july it was the first merchandise order and in September of that year
arrived, starting this pleasant
activity that counts with beloved fisherman friends.
The market on that moment not represent more than fifty people, that were
forced to buy on the external markets
by that time.
Thanks
to the economic open that aloud the income of any kind of merchandise,
the local Fisherman could access in Mendoza to a first quality
product, like ORVIS, worldwide leader on fly fishing.

1994
In
October, once that Pablo Rodrigo finished his studies of mountain guide,
he started to take care of the business, increasing his knowledge
of casting and fly tying, becoming in a short time in an instructor of
casting, water reading and the use of the modern lines of fly fishing.
At the same time, increasing his marketing techniques, and today every
customer that shops with him, feels the pleasure that they had been in
touch with a person with wide knowledge and feels comforted for all he
could learn even in the shortest chat.
Of there from now on, the growing was sustained and today more than 1500
customers honored us with their choice.
Originally the surface used for the shop was 16 m2 and the next year become
32 m2. |

1998
As the growth
it continued, in 98’ it builds 100 m2 more specially designed for a fly
fishing shop, with a lot of wood that evokes
the woods and trout rivers. This construction
it’s probably the first in Argentina dedicated to a fly shop.
In December Pablo Rodrigo could make that, the international master
“ Mel Krieger and his wife Fanny Krieger” came to our county to
teach the highest level on the essence of fly casting, and they teaches
a lot of fly tying, reading waters and entomology courses too.

2000
Always thinking
in our fisherman friends, on the February 9th, we decided to
float for the first time our “ Big River”, (Malargue), an historic fact
in our county being this way established one floated every summer for
those fisherman who wants to fish in this amusing way.

By MENDOZA FLY SHOP, they have passed personalities like : Hans
Hebesein and his wife, Mel Krieger and Fanny Krieger, Darío Pedemonte,
Efraín Castro (Tornillo), Martín Orellana, Fernando Belert, Pablo Martelli,
Federico Prato, Andres Morenza, among others.
To
be able to transmit this art, MENDOZA FLY SHOP, it puts on as objective,
to teach in a wide way the art of fly fishing, without secrets, for that
reason not only a product is sold although it teaches to the fisherman
how to catch a trout with a feathered hook. |

2001
On July, MENDOZA
FLY SHOP, decide to go out to the world trough internet, designing
the first portal of fly fishing in Cuyo, been able to transmit knowledge,
fun, information and tying courses trough the net, and so much subjects
that are discussed weekly because the
update it never overcomes seven days, that way we please to stay
a little more close to the worldwide fishermen. We consider ourselves
the caretakers of the tradition of fly fishing in Mendoza, by the history,
because we count with a depth study of entomology of our mountain range
streams carried out by Benito Perez, and captured in his book THE
FLY, Benito, as his friends name him, by this studies, can create
models of flies that imitate the Argentinean insects, that’s the way the
imitations born called PEREZ DESTROYER, and MASSARTA, in
nymph, sub imago and imago versions, flies that are always ready in MENDOZA
FLY SHOP for our visitors.
Not being lees and following the steps of his father, Pablo Rodrigo created
in 1997 the model of a fly called PEREZ CASTAÑO, a fly originally
designed for the Castaño River in the San Juan county in Argentina and
then it worked highly proved in Mendoza, Chile and Patagonia.
Today the Perez family, continues assisting, with the same cordiality
that in their origins, where you can share a coffee, served by Margarita,(mom),
and listen to thousands of fishing histories. |

2002
On September of 2002, Aconcagua
Fly Shop and Mendoza Fly Shop join together, of it joins of water born
Mendoza & Aconcagua Fly Shop, incorporating the valuable contribute
of a great tactic fisherman of Mendoza, Omar Flores, because of
this we could give to our costumers a lot more services, since Pablo
Perez leave a little the sale of fishing products, he has a lot of
time to explore the streams of our country and foreign waters. Mendoza
& Aconcagua Fly Shop, was thought and designed for the city fisherman
to reach to them a fly shop of their taste, a few steps from the Sarmiento
street, to make a rest between the daily activities, to chat a little
about fly fishing… in a shop set to make their illusions fly between waters…
